The Trip To Masai Mara

The Trip To Masai Mara

The group at breakfast

After a great breakfast of cereal, fruit, eggs, toast, jam and of course coffee we started off to our destination at ME to WE’s Bogani Camp in the Masai Mara. Along the way we stopped at the new library at the Githyaeku school, where a solar suitcase had been recently installed. I could not believe the welcome we received there. We were greeted with songs and dances by the students of the school and community members. It was an incredible feeling! Evelyn, from North High School in Bakersfield cut the ceremonial ribbon, inaugurating the new library.

One of the community members live in Tracy, CA.
He was kind enough to show us his family's farm
where they raise chili peppers among other things

After meeting the students and the people of the community, we traveled on to our destination. It was about 6 more hours in the bus over rough terrain in some spots. We descended into the Great Rift Valley of East Africa. By the way, it was in the Olduvai Gorge (part of the Rift Valley) where the oldest human ancestor fossils were found by Louis Leakey

Along the way, we spotted a baboon, which was very exciting four everyone. Kyle captured a picture of it, so ask him to see it when we get back. As we got into Maasai territory, we saw lots of cows and goats and also 3 gazelles along the road. The last hour or so of trip was on rocky dirt roads until we hit the Bogani Camp.

On the drive we saw the Kenyan military doing some field excerises
